I think Sony is doing the cinematic equivalent of sending the parents of the kidnapped kid a finger. “Give us the money or we ruin another C-Lister.”

... I'm detecting notes of sarcasm...
A weird part of me sort of loves that Sony is like, hey, we have the rights to the spiderman stuff, and there is nothing you can do to make us stop making absolutely garbage movies out of it.
I, for one, am shocked... SHOCKED...that this film didn’t turn out well.
Yeah wow they aint even trying to give off the facade of giving a shit. If anything this is an even bigger “fuck you” than continuing to say nothing.
A statement after a bill is signed is completely worthless. You are complicit if you wait until after a bill is signed.
Amazing how the Disney executive wrestling match was decided the very instant they couldn’t actually do anything anymore besides make vague apologies.
They can start by halting all donations to any lawmaker who voted to put it into law. Including DeSantis. They can continue by directing that withdrawn support and funding to the opponents of the bill.
Unless they stop contributing to politicians who were proponents of the bill, this statement is utterly toothless.
I’m getting the feeling that Mr. Chapek isn’t going to last very long as the CEO of Disney. He’s made several poor decisions in his short tenure at the helm of the house of mouse that has turned his employees and customers against him. Profit above all else will probably win the day, sadly.
Too late and the strongest statement is an empty promise. Watch who they donate to going forward. Elections are coming up. Chances are, those who voted yes on this (and the one who signed it into law) will be getting donations.
Moving Imagineering hurts my soul. That was a dream job for me, but not in Florida its not. Plus, Imagineering was intentionally in that area of LA because there were former NASA engineers and Hollywood prop types around. They won’t get nearly as diverse or skilled talent in Florida.
Imagine being offended by an acronym. Be quiet and let the grownups talk.
Again, Disney has no one to blame other than itself. A part of me thinks this is (a) culmination of several different transgressions by Disney since Chapek was installed as CEO, including the Scarlett Johansson debacle, the nickel-and-diming of park guests, the CFO telling investors that (in effect) some guests would…
They should just kick Disney to the curb and start their own entertainment company that is inclusive to all.
I could see it becoming a trend where a new artist/group/composer is responsible for the soundtrack in each new volume. Wendy O, then Daft Punk, then whomever is up to the task in another 5-10 years when anything meaningful happens on this project...
The only reason why TRON Legacy got made was because Disney needed its own sci-fi/fantasy/superhero franchise to compete with the other studios, and that was one of the few properties they had on hand that fit the bill. (Same thing with John Carter Not Of Mars.) Within a couple of years they owned both Marvel and Star…
Pssst.
I hope we get ANYTHING TRON related at this point. Legacy was a delicious appetizer. Uprising as well (the animation was so cool, and the music was juuust close enough to Daft Punk to feel right).
At this point I don’t really care if they stumble around with this for a while longer, since having the film come out around 2038 would maintain the pace set by the first two films. Cilian Murphy being in his 60s then would be a great fit for the villain.
