I understand why Anno wants to do it but I also understand why Miyazaki doesn’t. Nausicaä is a favorite of mine but it’s also a film that already exists and has little that could be improved upon. Why try to recapture the magic in live action?

So when you mention the ‘original’, are you referring to the animated movie or the manga? The animated film we’re all familiar with is actually an adaption itself. How is a live action adaption less justified than an animated one?

A prestige-budgeted series or miniseries based on the manga, rather than the film, would potentially work.
