Do "nerds" watch this show? I feel like this show has nothing for me and the segments I've watched have terrible jokes that stereotype nerd culture in the least intellectual way. Still, a friend of mine that is pretty nerdy watches this show all the time and loves it.

As you say, there are anime fans from many generations and each one was inspired by an initial viewing: one that most likely came through broadcast television.

The people that would have seen this anime through "traditional" American television would have seen the second movie "Beautiful Dreamer."
