Actually, that wasn't a railing, was it? And it was a lot worse considering one side was anchored or it dug in when the car hit it. That square metal contraption acted like the pole a high jumper uses, for lack of a better description. If it was a railing, the car would probably scrape down it and come to a safe stop.
