I recently heard from one person about an incident from sixty years ago. Sixty years passed before they were ready to talk...sixty.

My sister was assaulted, and reported it immediately, like the thought she was supposed to. Then she got interrogated and abused all over again by the people who were supposed to help her, while the perp got off with a slap on the wrist.

One friend took years before she admitted to HERSELF she was raped. And she is SUPER feminist.

I don’t love retelling this story, but I’ll share it here in case it might help anyone who shares Kelly’s beliefs understand why women don’t come forward immediately.

I’m with you 100%. The “innocent until proven guilty” types are always real quick to believe that the person making the claim is making up the story as the default position.

Yup. It’s almost like over-saturated news coverage of the rapist might cause the rape victim to re-live the incident and feel such post-traumatic stress that they would be more likely to come forward then at a time when the rapist is out of the news.

I believe in due process and letting the justice system work! That’s why I can already confidently say this woman is a fucking liar, case closed!

Is there a single time in any celebrated pro athlete’s career when a victim of theirs coming forward with an accusation won’t be met with “hm, interesting timing to say the least!” The accused is virtually always in the spotlight doing something, meaning an accusation can virtually always be (idiotically) countered…

If someone raped me in May I’d report it on the 4th of July so I can wear my jorts with the American flag pockets.
