He could definitely hear Joyce's voice - they made a point of Joyce hearing Jonathan's voice when they were both in the house and Joyce was in the upside Down.

They were even closer on the Hedy Lamarr reference than you made it sound - Sousa mentions frequency-hopping as Frost's major accomplishment, which Lamarr actually *did* (co-)invent. That system never made it into production, though, while Frost's fictional one apparently did.

Kind of like how Jews were treated better in the US than in Europe - in one place they were *the* definitive Other, while in the other they were the garden-variety minority that people were still a bit prejudiced towards.

I prefer to think of them as post-consumer brains.

I think you missed the implications of bipolar disorder in the Cuba storyline - medication, hyperactivity followed by depression, and Cynthia's warning that "what goes up must come down". Which gave that line a bit more meat than just "he did need to recharge".
