I don't see what the big deal is; California HOV lanes ain't nothin special. They may save you a couple of minutes in off peak hours, but rush hour, forgetaboutit. It's certainly not worth buying some crappy little hybrid, or sharing your quality alone time with your neighbor Bob and his early morning mindless banter.

I replaced the high beam floor switch in an old F100 4x4 with a momentary switch (tractor starter button) and hooked to the wipers. I used it to clear the windshield when four wheeling, One push, one swipe, it worked pretty darn good. Floor switches rule!
I'm guessing Model T clubs have a few friendly old folks to keep everyone entertained; pull my finger?

What other reason would there be for having a bunch of wet, shirtless boys slide down the hood of your car? It's not like it's a great slide, (pretty lame actually) it could dent the hood and the liability is ridiculous. They weren't just being friendly.
Maybe it's my life long hatred of cops, or my cynical view of the world, but this seems a bit ephebophilic to me.
One of my trucks holds 26 gallons and I fill it at least once a week. I start the pump and sit my lazy ass back in the drivers seat to watch the $$$ tick away. I'm not sure about large companies, but I know most municipalities put it out to bid. They write a generic spec, and whoever gives the best deal wins. Although a lot of times the specs are written to give one manufacture an edge, (and the Road & Bridge department head's wife a sweet deal on a mini van).
