She’s amazing, really great (and tough!) in Oz. A No-nonsense nun at a prison. Loved her in The Electric Company as a kid, too.

Ps. For anyone interested, I can hugely recommend the recent book, “Ma’am Darling: 99 Glimpses of Princess Margaret”. I read the reviews of this in the Guardian and was like, “Import this to me NOW pleeeease.” Not too bad, about $22 and I’ve read it twice.

Hahaha. :)  I’d gladly watch that.

It is so great, and mysterious. It has a strange beauty.  I had read about it and wanted to see it for ages, thank heaven for DVRs! :)

Another thing that should be abolished is private, for-profit corporate prisons where this poor woman was abused and died in. The horror stories never end with for-profit prisons, they go out of their way to keep inmates incarcerated, they cut corners to save pennies, they save the taxpayers zero. Corporations should

Plus the ghost of Princess Margaret demanding another drink and singing show tunes off-key all night.

No, authorities in India are also tasked with the question of recovering his body. Maybe the islanders deserve whatever diseases they get. Even if the islanders didn’t want this seriously dumb stupid kid on their island, he was unarmed and no threat to them at all. They don’t even understand the concept of disease

So true!  :)

I somehow got through adult life pretty sure I had seen The Man Who Fell to Earth. Then I watch the trailer in the article above, and I forget tons of these scenes. I remember Bowie as the damaged alien in need of help, the rest is a blur. It’s like, ten movies, or movie ideas, rolled into one. Was I stoned? Perfo

Thinking of another Australian-set movie with a similar dreamy 70s quality, was glad to DVR Picnic at Hanging Rock by Peter Weir off of TCM a while ago. It shares a strangeness to it with Walkabout, I think.

His mother has also said that she does not blame the people of the island for her son’s death, that it is on him alone. She does not want authorities in India to prosecute anyone, though they have indicated they might try. Good luck?

Speaking of UK chocolate, Libby mentioned Quality Street. My mom’s from NI and managed to get her hands on them somehow in NYC when I was a kid. And they were really very good, colorful, and the tins had great illustrations that were different every year. You can get them now in the US, but here and in the UK, the

“Black Wednesday” as a name is completely made up, unexplained, and not a thing. Or rather, no one fucking calls it that. At least Black Friday has a reason, when retail stores expect to go “into the black”financially for their lucrative holiday season.

Facebook didn’t tiptoe to avoid poking the bear on the left. They went right up to the bear and stabbed it repeatedly. And then goaded the the right wing to join in on the stabbing.”

it’s really, really obvious. I thought everyone knew it too, surprised if anyone at all is surprised.

Really well said. “Smug” really attaches itself to Maher, it’s appropriate. I loved your “truth bomb and SHIT JUST GOT REAL.”, because he really does that all the time, like absolutely everyone else in the world are idiots, he’s the smirking know-it-all with ALL the actual truth and wisdom. Unbearable after a

miss Christopher Reeve, a lot. He was a very fine actor, and after his accident, a hero in real life. He made us believe.

Just wondering, your response was informative and wonderful, but when you say. “Immigrants (particularly the Irish) were politically influential enough to demand both a lenient legal system”, are you implying the Irish were more prone to crime? Probably true, starving immigrants get pushed to desperate measures in

But, you’re right, Michelle Wolf will be fine. I’m not even a particular fan of hers, her delivery can kind of grate me. But at the WHCA dinner thing, she really did kill.  I just have to admire comedians, especially ones doing a high-wire, high-profile act like that.

Yeah, but it was just a photograph that took a minute to take, and it wrecked her career. And she’s still hounded to this day for it. That’s fucked up.
