It isn’t that people are overpaying. It’s that they so detest the traditional dealership model that they knowingly pay a premium to avoid it. I’ve never bought there but the people I know who do are very happy with it (and don’t care that they could have saved a few hundred dollars with Greasy McFoursquare).

Buried in the midst of your excellent post is the point that author and commentors alike seem to be missing: a mountain of debt used to buy an asset that is currently worth a fraction of its purchase price is *exactly* why we have Bankruptcy Court.

Qualified star. Yes, there are public costs associated with operating a cab, and limiting medallions is one way (not the only, or necessarily best way, but one way) to manage that. Too many people overlook that.

IKR??

That’s what I remember thinking when I first saw this article. I was under the impression that what really drove OHV engines post-WW2 was the newfound expertise by oil refiners at making high-octane fuel at reasonable cost, after having spent the war making huge quantities of aviation fuel. That in turn allowed

YES!! Nothing says “childhood” to me quite like typing RUN “GUNSHIP”, 8,1 and then lighting incense and offering prayers to the gods that it would actually load.

Exactly this. This is effectively a lease, at a discount rate many HNW individuals would have no trouble exceeding with the cash they are freeing up.

“After the seventh inning, you’re supposed to earn it.”

Is there a CUV, including this one, that is wider than it is tall? Is there a track that permits a vehicle that is taller than it is wide to drive in anger? Regardless, has anyone ever seen an SUV or CUV turn a hot lap on a track? (I did see an old Toyota Hilux once, but again — width>height on those old trucks).

This! You beat me to it. Came here to post that a nuclear fizzle was a plot device in Tom Clancy’s last good novel. Complete with a very detailed, readable explanation of how a nuclear bomb works and what a fizzle is. Need to re-read that one.

In addition to what others have mentioned (taking out a whole formation of bombers at once, in an era when bombers still flew in formation), it had the benefit of not needing to be very accurate to kill its target. The AIM-4 Falcon missiles deployed at the same time were garbage, even by the low standards of

I think it means that it ate grain in a feedlot after it was done grazing, when it was time to bulk it up for sale. As one traditionally does with cattle.

Eh, $25/lb for a standing rib roast is a bit spendy but not way out of line. Although at that price, it really ought to be dry-aged.

Is “Flashlight of Accountability” his nickname for Little Roy?

This is no time to be frivolous, but I am disappointed that no one else got the Thomas Dolby reference.

You sure that’s a paint issue and not a hood issue? I had a previous-gen (2013) Mustang and there was a recall due to galvanic corrosion in the aluminum hood causing the paint to bubble. It’s a well documented issue (though one would hope they had fixed it by now, considering the F150 is all aluminum).

Around Indy there’s a guy in a Honda Fit with a COVFEFE plate.

Not enough stars. Have another.

Ooh, good point. Make that engine fit in a late-80's Prelude and...

I don’t remember that. But my first job out of college was sales at a Honda dealer in 2001, and I remember driving a first-gen Insight and thinking that despite being really underpowered, it was a pretty fun car.
