I hear ya, but (for better or worst) all the food that is coming into the house is organic and fresh. You may think it is preposterous, but I haven't been served anything out of a can in years.

IMO, the biggest challenge is not preparing. It is keeping the stuff refreshed and within expiration dates. I wouldn't mind plucking hundreds of dollars right now to be prepared.
