So it's not "inexplicable" at all. She was hired to voice a character. She did the voice as requested. People get paid, the movie gets a celebrity name tied to it.
Going by the title, I assumed it was going to be one of those deals where he's in character answering doors to trick-or-treaters or something. But no, this is a staged sketch. That the article even acknowledges this makes it even more confounding.
