I mean... I once took a hamster to the vet when it looked like she was in distress, which it turns out she was. I shelled out about $150 to have her suffering relieved. I don't think that's too irrational, I think it was the kind thing to do for the poor little animal that was in my care.

That's awesome. I did the same thing, and my dog lived to a ripe old age. Never regretted it.

You know what? Good for this dude. People spend $500 on a lot stupider shit than keeping a pet they like alive. I hope it works out for this fish.

If it was a dog or cat, people wouldn't bat an eyelid. But dogs and cats live for ~12 years. Goldfish live for ~30. On a yearly basis, the poop surgery is a better investment.

As someone who just spent close to $11,000 to save my young dog's life (she's healthy and happy and should live a good long life now), I can't really second guess anybody who tries to save their pet from unnecessary suffering and death, regardless of the cost.

As somebody who has had many fish over the years, I'm kind

That's one of the reasons. Another one is the knee jerk response of "didn't she made that just up" - it does say a lot about society if your first empathetical reaction goes out to the possible perpetrator than the victim - and the victim blaming which you will find almost throughout all cultures - this will prevent

There were two witnesses to my assault and the DA still told me that it was a "he said, she said" situation that wasn't even worth pressing charges on.

More to the point, however, is that the legal system was set up mainly to deal with property crime and is in no way prepared to deal properly with sexual violence.

This is one example of why you might want to reconsider.your view that no witnesses are why the low.conviction rate. It's a bit naive.

There's a better chance of punishment because the there is a man around to validate the victim's account. :/

It's not fun full stop

LOL. People on reddit are already complaining that this isn't "justice porn," but vigilantes acting out of control.

There wasn't a witness to my rape, but there was a confession. Still no conviction, much less jail time. So if you're really a betting man, you might want to do more research, because that's a gamble.

Thank you! I feel better that he'll possibly face real time. However, I'm still glad he received the beating of a lifetime- especially if his charges get reduced, or worse, it goes to trial & he's let off. With rape, "charged" seems like a galaxy away from "convicted".

Guys, remember the law does word things in ways that neccessarily reflect our vernacular or emotions associated with said crime. "Criminal sexual conduct in the first degree" is a pretty big fucking deal in South Carolina. It's not like they wrote him a jaywalking ticket:

Criminal sexual misconduct? I'm glad he got a serious ass beating. I wonder if he has any real chance of seeing jail time. I doubt it.

This headline makes it sound like an instance of vigilantism. A guy found his girlfriend being assaulted by his uncle so he used force to end the assault and remove the Uncle. Then he called the cops who got there before the uncle returned, and arrested him when he eventually did return.

HOLY SHIT. Dude looks like a corpse.

I feel like Sea World could treat its animals with the utmost care and it would still be a bad idea to keep a killer whale in a tank for our viewing pleasure.

"Dismantling" is an incredibly odd word to use when talking about a person's death, it makes her sound like an Ikea bookcase or something!
