Oh my God. I worked in a shop for seven years and had my share of shit from parents and children, but this... I would have killed her.
She was sensitive. She calmly removed the kid’s hand, and she only piped-up because the parent didn’t seem to display a scintilla of insight as to why having the kid’s fingers in her plate might be undesirable.
So you think it’s okay for someone to grab YOUR food off YOUR plate at a restaurant with his slobbering hands? And you would eat said food? I’m sorry, but when I’m paying for food at a restaurant, I expeect it to be free of all slobber other than my own. But you’re welcome to let some strangers kid eat your food.

Yeah - my only criticism of the diner owner was that they yelled at the kid. Don’t yell at the kid, yell at their idiot parent who is clearly unfit for their role.
I, too, am hyperaware when children are in my vicinity, so I totally understand. Sometimes co-workers bring their kids to work and I just sit there very still, hoping that they can’t see me and will pass without interacting.

My gentleman caller (or “boyfriend” as he insists I call him) has a big problem with kids in restaurants. Although he won’t admit it, the presence of children is his benchmark for the quality of any establishment. And he is hyperaware of any child in his general vicinity.
That’s really the key here: are the parents making an effort?
