I get that, but I think you’re not separating the two enough. It’s like saying some people have decided that being proud of their Irish heritage is the same thing as being racist, or is justification for being racist. The two aren’t necessarily anything to do with each other...like believing Israel should exist and

Dude-it’s not worse than apartheid South Africa. Doesn’t have to be compared to be bad.

Well THAT is not true. Zionism by definition entails the support of Israel’s right to exist as a state, and says nothing about any particular Israeli government.

Happens a lot on Jezebel.

I’m pretty sure Zionism by definition is believing Israel has a right to exist, not whether or not Palestine does. So I’m not sure what you’re trying to say.

WORD. Besides which, the feminist movement as seen today has a not-fabulous track record regarding Judaism/anti-semitic sentiment and/or failing to understand antisemitism sufficiently to fight it.

I agree, but aren’t we talking specifically about the movement which this March represents and highlights? I’m not a huge fan of that movement, either. This idea that there is some kind of ambiguous amorphous “feminist” movement out there to which we can belong or not is nonsense. In reality, either we’re participants

Oh, OKAY. So you just decided that you were going to highlight the idea that Zionists aren’t welcome, even though the Israel/Palestine question is WAY more complicated than most of us living in the U.S. are ever going to understand and probably ought not be an organizing piece of the modern Feminist movement anyway.

WORD. What some people find important isn’t going to be the same as what others find important, especially when that comes to marginalized identities that aren’t often discussed as such by mainstream media [like being Jewish, for me].

I will enjoy my lesbians-only club now. Thanks for your blessing :)

I mean, sure it’s possible for a high school kid to be self-realized and know what their sexuality is. I was pretty certain of my sexual identity at sixteen, and so were most of my close friends. Most of my queer friends now were also fairly certain at sixteen.

Yeah, I’ve been realizing that. My guess is a lot of these people are wealthy-ish white ppl who don’t want to admit they are not The Most Oppressed or deal with any criticisms but I don’t wanna assume.

WORD. The queer community can be just as awful as everyone else, if not more so because so many people think they’re officially oppressed ergo cannot possibly be held responsible for being oppressive. But she’s white and rich and prolly won’t notice that stuff.

Yes, that’s exactly what happened. I’m sitting here in school, about to finish my undergrad degree and having been accepted to an MFA program. I’ve worked two jobs this entire year, and completed three internships successfully. But yes. Totally deranged. You got it.

Doesn’t Facebook promote vids and photos of women and girls [and presumably also men and boys] who are being sex trafficked?

Well good! So as long as you’re still giving to the queer community you’re identifying with right now, what’s the issue here? Cuz I haven’t got one.

Well I’m sure the Straight Outta Compton people trying to say something about people marginalized in a way that has nothing to do with this discussion feel real great about that t-shirt, and even better about you using it.

I’ve read those articles, but I’m suspicious based on the lack of discussion regarding how the data was collected, how identities were conferred, etc. I found at least three articles, and you’re right about what they say, but they don’t say anything about how those studies came to those conclusions.

I mean, sometimes stereotypes are true—especially if they’re not stereotypes, which are produced by dominant culture [do we really have to do oppression 101? can’t you just educate yourself before you post?], but rather theories produced by the ACTUALLY oppressed community that is being negatively impacted by people

Well there is really no way in which this is biphobic, except that I don’t agree with you and it’s become totally socially acceptable to yell some random insult at someone who says something they don’t agree with that claims they’re perpetuating oppression they’ve nothing to do with. But sure. Homophobic. I’m
