Yeah-not to mention that “performing authenticity” for the benefit of a white audience is not exactly the same as having one’s own cultural identity, which one inhabits or disidentifies with based on how safe one feels in any given context.

This is so crazy!! The boys at my middle school sexually assaulted girls in the bathrooms. It had nothing to do with their gender identities [DUH] but rather with their intent to rape! Men who want to sexually assault women will find a way to do so, and the idea that women have “safe spaces” at all is pretty suspect

Okay. Are there problems with Planned Parenthood? Sure. Are there problems with a lot of things in this society? YEP. Should we be comparing genocide to specific women making individual decisions? UM...

Oh it is so not the same. Women die every year because of body-shaming. No man that I know of has died because of his anxieties regarding a receding hairline.

Twenty is plenty old enough to consent, dude. No, it’s not “scandalous”—would it be scandalous for a twenty-year-old woman to be with a man ten years her senior? No. So your thing isn’t some kind of “abuse.” Quit playing the victim!

Anyone else think this Jennifer Garner/Ben Affleck thing was a really good example of unpaid labor? She put her career on hold to raise his kids, and now she’s “too old” in Hollywood years to be billable. She’s got to wonder how she’s going to support herself, and whether she’ll fade from view entirely if she and

Dude, that’s not anarchist. That’s just uber-Christian...Armaggedon and such.

Yes, you’re right. After all, refusing to support a creepy white guy who probably sexually abused at least two women (probably more, because usually these are serial cases) is totes the same thing as supporting-what’s that?-a creepy white dude who molested several women.

Talented, maybe. But I think Ben really dug in and fought for what he’s got, after having his career basically flatline. He also has made an effort obviously to participate in projects that are more than just showcases for himself, projects with strong female leads and/or real political resonance. Talent only takes a

Right, because Gone Girl and The Town and the many other pretty significant contributions Affleck’s made to film-making—Argo, anyone?—were ACTUALLY funded by, directed by, and acted in by Damon.

I know, right?!

Are you kidding? Being whiny and twitchy is not a decent performance if that’s how you actually ARE. Besides, Ben’s on fire lately—Gone Girl, The Town. He can direct and act and greenlight pretty amazing projects.

Yeah how weird is it they all clapped for him? Like, since when has he done anything but ride his brother’s coattails?

I feel like these kinds of rejection happen in so many ways. Being fat, disabled, queer—men freak out when they’re attracted to me, and sometimes that turns to hate or violence. People have an idea of what they ought to be attracted to, and wanting someone else feels like a threat to their male fragility.

I think she’s gorgeous. and isn’t it so like misogynists? She made a not-nice face, fuck her!

Yeah, but notice how he focused on “relationships”...not on actual professional WORK.

I think this kind of “benign neglect” can be just as bad. cuz parents think that’s okay, cuz they’re not actually abusing anyone outright...but the longterm impact of that for years can be just as bad as hitting a kid once or twice.

Didn’t see what was wrong with “make every day international women’s day” or Emma Watson’s tweet.

oh I just threw up in my mouth a little.

and a history of being on reality tv, and broken-up marriages, and was she accused of sexual assault...
