Hi Jezzies
Different societies have different gender norms, stereotypes, expectations, taboos, etc. Something that’s considered typically masculine in one place can be seen as typically feminine in another. Or during another time in history. A society develops ideas about what is considered feminine and masculine, as well as…
Well sexism definitely played against Hillary too. And yes White male privilege is a thing. I just don’t think it’s going to do him that much good against another white male who has no problem saying the silent parts out loud.
Hillary was weakened by decades of attacks from the right yes, and Biden still polls lower than she did at this same point. He’s manages to be an even weaker candidate.
Oh I’m going to vote for whoever the dems put up. And once again I will vocally encourage others to do the same, citing the now certain consequences of their inaction. What he will do with the office is no longer hypothetical.
However, I’m a realist. Trump wasn’t that popular to begin with in polling of the general…
I think back to 2016, and how at this stage in head to head polling Hillary was blowing him out of the water by a double digit margin. Biden may have the highest head to head lead, but it’s only single digits.
Armchair pundits were calling her a weak candidate at that time, but I’m supposed to think Biden is worlds…
Yesssss! This would be a brilliant ticket.
This is the ticket I wanted!
I’d be insanely happy voting for this ticket.
I was reminded of this article. It’s okay if you skip down to the numbered rules re: surviving autocracy. The rest has been beaten to death already. It’s the rules that stuck with me.
How did we get to nihilism so fast.
After all this is said and done; if the democrats are disciplined in their message, they should be able to successfully paint the entire GOP as corrupt. It should resonate with voters who are not part of the Trump cult. That to me is the lasting impact of these proceedings.
I happen to be a person who believes that standing on principle and upholding the rule of law is never pointless. Sure, the corrupt GOP will not convict him in the senate. But you don’t fail to stand up for what is right because of corruption. Let the corrupt expose themselves. Sooner or later the label will stick.
Yeah, this is my take. The GOP has shown what they are willing to tolerate, but now it will be on record. Without an impeachment it is easier for the GOP to duck and dodge questions of presidential conduct, creating a plausible storyline that they “would have supported impeachment if the facts bore it out”. Now they…
Yes - most - if not all Republican Senators will vote to acquit Trump - so they’ll get nowhere near a conviction to remove him - but the Dems in the House & Senate will have done their jobs. They will be on the right side of history.
Until we at least attempted to impeach him, we could only guess at the outcome. As others have stated, Nixon’s support in the Senate was absolute. Until it wasn’t. Without trying, we would never know.
So, what’s your point, ultimately, then, if your entire take is so nihilistic?
There are still some advantages here.
Even though it will never get through the Senate, this had to be done. It was either impeach the motherfucker (props to Rep. Tlaib) or admit that we aren’t even trying to protect the Constitution anymore.
Even without a conviction in the Senate this isn’t entirely pointless. He can’t be pardoned for any crimes for which he is impeached.
