Nobody HAS to do what Nintendo does. The defense can be as lax as Microsoft or Sega’s defenses. “It builds mindshare.” Stuff like that. It doesn’t result in any real punitive results one way or another for a company - this just happens to be how Nintendo does things... I’m not saying they aren’t messed up with what

I was going to say that I’ve replied with a link here somewhere (holy crap this post blew up), but I’ll just post it here again.

Uh... okay?... but ALSO:
It does... it’s just how they argue, should it ever be required in a legal setting. Companies can be as generous, or not, as they like with their IP. It doesn’t hurt them, or even benefit them, in any way that ever really affects them.
But I’ve linked to IP law elsewhere here... I wasn’t saying

I’ll reference that you check out my responses to other folks, but in short, I wasn’t actually arguing in favor of Nintendo not being d-bags, just that, they have to do something, and this is what they chose to do... what Sega (and Capcom, and Microsoft, and several others) does, being more lax, in their reaction to

Exactly. If anything, it strengthened the mindshare of their IPs, and fostered a very loyal and active fanbase. Because again - if a company can put spin on it saying “it’s for the fans, it makes the brand more widespread, it builds loyalty”, then usually, the argument can stand up to scrutiny and works great...

But a

Holy cow, this post blew up. I wasn’t prepared for that.
As I mentioned, I was “pretty sure”. I’m going off of a general assumption based on arguments and whatnot. I CANNOT substantiate this claim that there is punitive ramifications - unless you count the argument being used in court that you didn’t protect your IP,

Here’s a sad truth a lot of people don’t know about: most IP laws REQUIRE a company “do everything in their power to protect their IP”. Now, in the US, a lot of that stuff has obvious gaps and whatnot for freedom of exposure and expression... but all the same, if you were to use a piece of an IP to promote an agenda

That still blows my mind. Like... if I wanted to better sell my product, and I could compare it flatteringly to a super popular competitor, THAT would be my angle. “We’re family friendly, just like Nintendo and their Switch console.”  That would be a bit rude, for sure, but you’d still get a more positive effect

I have an Xbox and can’t play Last of Us or God of War or Horizon Forbidden Zero West Dawn (sorry, that’s an inside joke amongst my Playstation friends).

I don’t care. I’m glad there are great experiences on that platform. I have my own that I enjoy immensely and wouldn’t give up... that doesn’t mean I’m going to

Wait... he says games from MS and Sony are terrible and have bad content for kids... but that Nintendo makes kids games?

Wow. The logical loopholes are gargantuan.

That sounds EXACTLY like something he would say. But like, not about a JRP one-shot or series that has very little mass appeal, like an Atelier game or something (no offense Atelier fans). This sounds like what he’d say about Final F**KING Fantasy X or something. A Pokemon game. Golden Sun (at the time).

This is the most honest, kind, but also just “sick-and-tired” post I’ve read in a long while that didn’t come directly from me. Hi, how are you? I’m sorry everything sucks... I wish we could do more to do better.

This is the most petty complaint to make about someone, but back when he was on that show Electric Playground with Victor Lucas (yes, I know, ancient show at this point), they would both review the same game, and every time, Tommy had the most bullshit complaints about games, sometimes to the exasperation of Victor,

That’s hella wrong. It’s not “let people believe what they wanna believe in” when you’re telling HUMANS what they are and are not allowed to do with their bodies (in ways that literally affect zero other people) without being punished for it with literal criminal labeling. The point of a law is not to “stop” someone

I’m still upset about it. I just want them to burn more money doing it. I want whatever process needs to take place so that the value of the IP they have falls just low enough that they’re finally willing to just give up and sell it back to Disney/Marvel for a large sum, rather than running that stuff into the ground

That’s great! That’s really awesome. The issue comes in when you still have the option of seeing lots of white characters that are visually and stylistically appealing in... well, ALL forms of media. Literally everywhere. You want a lithe, agile character? There’s tons. Big, burly ones? Yup, right over here.

Most people understand that if you bought something at 50% off, you’d get only that much back if you returned it.

I genuinely, GENUINELY, am pissed. You mean to tell me that Black Widow doesn’t get another shot at theaters, but f***in MORBIUS does?

No. No, drop this silly meme. Let it die please. Screw Sony’s film line, screw them screwing over the movie rights with Spider-Man - just TANK this crap, let it die, kill the value of

Nah, see, Elena is that “anime black female” thing. She has straight, white hair... and she also wears, like... nothing? Her outfits barely even fits as “native to a country in Afrika.” She’s just some character a Japanese artist designed in the 90s without much research or care. There’s almost nobody who would stop

Does anyone with hate-filled, intolerance-filled opinions/views have any good excuse to NOT just “live and let live”? “Love thy neighbor”? Just care about other people who aren’t your friends and family? Is that genuinely seen as BS by some people? Because that terrifies me. If I see someone in a horrible car wreck,
