Goalkeepers literally win and lose games all the time (see the Champions League Final (Karius) and World Cup Final (Subasic) for recent high-profile examples).

The US has produced a lot of good, solid, professional goalkeepers, a handful of whom had respectable careers in Europe. I think it’s a stretch to say any of them were ‘world class,’ but I guess it depends on how you want to define the term.
