Yea I get why people are anti-tail clipping for dogs but like I said to my pup he either needs to get a job or stop whacking things with his tail. He’s unemployable so the tail had to go. It’s fine that I totally mutilated him because he has a bed and some chew toys.

Counter counter point: Maybe you should go have the tips of your fingers and toes amputated and see how you like it before inflicting it on an animal that’s just following its natural instincts. Removing claws changes the way a cat’s foot meets the ground and can cause them continuous pain for the rest of their lives. It can also lead to arthritis and nerve damage. Why would anyone elect to put their pet through that torture just for the sake of keeping the furniture nice?

Declawing a cat is equivalent to removing the first bone from all of your fingers and thumbs. It is violent animal abuse.  It should be a crime, as it already is in Maryland and New York.

Yes, I wish simple trimming had been mentioned. Our very old cat has trouble fully retracting his claws, so he gets snagged just trying to walk across the bed. Once in a while I clip the sharp tips off with nail clippers. They make special clippers for pets, but regular human ones work fine for this, as well.

Declawing a cat cuts off part of their paw - to make sure the claw doesn’t grow back. This is the same thing as cutting off the tip of your finger to make sure you don’t regrow your fingernail. It’s not something you do to a beloved pet.

Double-sided tape on any surface you don’t want them scratching. They freaking hate the feel of the tape on their paws. Absolutely give them an alternative scratching surface - baited with catnip for extra encouragement - but deterring with double-sided tape works great.
