Yup! Tolkien was arguably the first to do epic fantasy, but so much more followed during the late fifties and early sixties. Granted, fantasy took off around the seventies when LotR made it big, but there’s a lot that came before D&D.

This reminds me of a time a dude was trying to convince me that Tolkien “ripped off” Dungeons and Dragons. That Lord of the Rings was obviously a game that got dramatic. The Balrog was obviously a Blah-Blah demon by another name, “hobbits” were Halflings, etc.
