Iconic actress.

Look there have been plenty of studies that have been searching for the relationship between the impacts of vaginal birth vs. c sections on microflora since the late 90's. There is some really intresting data out there strongly suggesting a relationship.

The NIH published a report covering the hypotheses in 2012 that

The utter lack of reading comprehension skills, scientific literacy, and understanding of basic anatomy on display in this article and the comments is really depressing.

How do you think the baby comes out of your vagina? In shrink wrap? Your vaginal secretions are ALL OVER the baby. It’s by design.

I’m actually not gonna hate on this one. If I were to guess I’m thinking even a larger study would show it doesn’t do much BUT: new and interesting research has shown that there may be more to vaginal delivery than we realized. So let's try things out to learn more and maybe benefit some bebbehs in the process.

As a veteran of a few law firms and the possessor of a couple GREAT bar stories, I will say this: I bet Hillary is FUCKING HILARIOUS once you get a couple drinks in her. No lady lawyer survives her first few years of practice without a couple of INSANE stories. I would have a beer with her in a hot minute.

Hillary, you really put a lot of effort into this post. Regurgitating a Slate article within minutes of its posting is the height of science reporting.

Seriously. The scientific (and in some cases basic anatomical) ignorance of this article and the comments are really depressing.

We are just beginning to understand exactly how intimately (no pun intended) the symbiotic relationship we have with the bacteria that live all over us, and constitute multiple pounds of our body weight, impacts our health, and all signs point to ‘very much so’. Colonizing C-section babies with the bacteria they would

well, if they’re born vaginally, they’re getting a hefty dose of it in every crease and crevice. Nothing gross or weird about that.

“Ew?” because women’s bodies are so disgusting? So, does that mean the entire concept of vaginal birth makes the author vomit? How childish and sex negative.

They actually *all* did pre- c-section. That’s the point.

Doctors and researchers trying to address any differences in health outcomes between babies delivered c-section and those delivered vaginally.

It’s not a trend! It’s a goddamn scientific study.

Thank you. People around here sound like a bunch of pubescent boys... Vaginas are not gross, people - especially for humans fresh out of the womb.

OH, DJ. No. You grew up in San Francisco. COME ON.

This is not a “new trend”; this was part of a study. Do you need it? No, because it’s not SOP and babies are surviving, but it’s A STUDY to see if it’s possible to mimic the beneficial exposure to the flora of a mother’s birth canal in babies delivered via C-section.

There’s so many women that are not pro-choice, that are pro-life. And to say they’re not feminists, that they’re anti-women if they’re not supporting another woman is, you know, that’s to me what’s wrong with feminism. That is a turn-off for me as a woman.

Yes, we really do have to rid ourselves of the myth of African racial homgeneity. It is as diverse and irrational and messed up as the rest of the continents with its own partisan nonsenses, casts, clans, bigotries and injustices. Maybe one day we’ll stop infantilising it as some kind of Shangrila.

I think that, as shitty as America is with racism, it *is* good that we acknowledge it (for the most part). I feel like there are a lot of other countries that declared themselves done with racism when they’re clearly way behind where we are in a lot of ways.
