Reading this site for years. Came for the sports, stayed for the politics. Still a loyal grey after all these years. That’s going to be hard though with this bullshit corporate mandate. In fact I’d say since the elimination of Splinter I’ve cut my time here by about 60%. Factor in those fucking autoplay videos and I’m

The idea that certain people or positions inherently “deserve” respect lead people to feel entitled to it, which is at the root of a LOT of times police officers flip out at people for not giving them the respect they “deserve”.

in a city where he won six percent of the vote in the previous election.

I figure this is your last piece before they give you the axe. I’m a middle-aged Luddite without any social media, but I’ll try to follow your writing wherever you land. Thanks so much for putting together columns like this. You’re a funny, insightful writer and your work is invaluable.

The thing that I like best about David Roth writing about Trump is that he writes it at such a level that, if Trump were ever actually arsed to read it, he could not possibly comprehend it. Unlike the Boaster-in-Chief, David really does have the best words.

Dear Deadspin’s overlords:

“Lock him up” was far more polite than what I had hoped would happen. But then, chanting “Go fuck yourself” would just become a mish-mash mess with 40,000 people screaming it.

I love Scarborough’s presumption to speak for all of us. I very much do want the world hearing us chant ‘lock him up’ about this president. I want the world to know how deeply many of us despise the loser and everything he stands for. The idea that no president should ever be publicly jeered is such banana republic

This article is very good. If your bosses ever shut you down I do hope you and some departed Deadspin and Gawker writers will set up some sort of worker-led site funded through subscriptions or Patreon or something. I would pay $15 a month or so to read your columns, which I have to imagine is more than my page views

Also, and not to sound like my toddler, Trump started it! Nobody would chant “lock him up”, as well-deserved as it is, if he didn’t lead those chants at his rallies. Without his chants, people there would have just booed him. That’s it.

Our dumb wet President may not have subtext, but Roth’s sure got it.  Those last couple of sentences: *chef’s kiss*.

Fuck, man, the paragraph that begins with “As with most of Trump’s attempts at Presidentiality...” is a god damned masterpiece.

Shine on you beautiful, beautiful bastards.

Help me, I stuck to sports and now I can’t get all this sports off of me. Can you guys get Jolie Kerr to do an article about the best way to get sports off of a nice dress shirt?

The least interesting parts of this story are the parts that are about sports.

This whole thing is a delight, as always, but “buttery germaphobe” is somehow even better than the 800 other amazing descriptions Roth has run through over the years, and again, I don’t know how he’ll top it (but he will).

Keep fighting the good fight guys. If I wanted ESPN-like articles, I’d go there.

I LOVE the idea that we should respect the presidency enough to not jeer Trump, a man so beneath the office that it is now a matter of course that he’ll attack individual civilians who publicly disagree with him.

OY!
