I know. I feel like with the candidates over the last couple weeks, he’s trying to see how close to 100% he can get.

This may be a good price for a Ghibli of that age, but if I’m buying $25k of Maserati, I want one with the Ferrari V8. $25k buys you a lot there (and even though they’re older, a lot are out there with less mileage than this example).

That might be right, but given FCA/Jeep’s reliability records, I’m not sure they’re the destination for drivers who want reliable luxury.

I agree generally with what you’re saying. I just think this is going to compete better at the “top end F150” price point (what is that these days? 85k?), than at the 100-105k price point.

Good point about the dealer experience. It seems one of the reasons Cadillac has struggled against the competition is because GM has struggled to get dealers to produce a purchase and service experience equivalent to their competition. And Cadillac is actually a luxury brand.

Exactly this. Total luxury brand sales in 2019 was about 2.3 million (and that’s using a very broad definition of “luxury,” and includes everything from lease special 320i to $180k Taycans). That’s basically Ford’s annual sales. And I’m sure if you broke it down by model, the 80-100k models like this would be giving

That’s the disaster of this design for me. Every time you look at it, it looks like a bad knockoff of another luxury SUV.

This seems like the classic example of a car where the market value (which may well be in the mid $20s) is wildly different from what most buyers will consider a nice price.

I agree. All of the C/E/S coupes are too big in the back end - it kind of sticks up too high in the air or something.  It looks awkward and not particularly luxurious.

I originally thought this was in line with what I usually see these listed for, so I voted NP. But I just checked my local CL — looks like something in the 2s would be the market price for this.

Yes, the site is basically unusable. (I’m on the latest iOS and Chrome, I’d anyone from Kinja tech is reading.)

And yet, there are people making that exact argument, but without the sarcasm tags.

Hard agree. This new Turbo S in brown would absolutely be my family hauler if I didn’t have budget constraints. Pretty much the perfect all-around car.

These really hold their value ridiculously well. You can find all sorts of Cayennes under $10k (as always, there’s the question of whether you want a sub-$10k Cayenne), but good luck finding a Panamera under $20k.

You’re right - that would be a good play for this car. I think $500 or so would be about the right price of admission for that project.

My guess is they’re targeting the same market that buys $100k+ Bronco restomods and $500k+ Singers. Rich people who own ranches in Texas or ski compounds in Montana. That sort of crowd, who has massive amounts of money to spend, is willing to pay a huge premium for uniqueness, and needs some sort of of semi-capable

This car has got nothing going for it, IMO. The exterior is beaten and needs glass that is probably unobtanium. The interior needs to be rebuilt to be usable. It doesn’t even run. And once you put in all the work to fix it, what do you have? A car that offers nothing special other than its rarity. ND at virtually any

Yup, it’s amazing how the sense of time compressed as you age. I remember in high school, first semester felt like a different geologic epic than second semester. Now, I have to think hard to pinpoint the decade in which something occurred during my adulthood.

Oh, that’s disappointing. I have one kid in a booster and one in a rear facing car seat...a tight back seat — especially in a sedan — is a dealbreaker.

6MT + LSD + better brakes are kind of the key features anyway. Of course I’d prefer it with the V6 instead of the 2.0 4. But at this point, if you want to drive a manual (on a new car), some trade offs will be made.
