Well, this is just evidence that this car is really outside my price range, but I guess I would prefer it to be a bit further down the depreciation curve and closer to its terminal price before I bought in. Not because I think it’s an investment, but because it’s a toy, and I don’t think there’s going to be a huge

It could, but I think if it as a BMW vs Mercedes positioning. One is more selling to the luxury/performance market, one is selling to the luxury/comfort market.

I think this makes a lot of sense. There’s a ton of room around Lexus and Toyota where you could sell a fun, performance oriented brand without stepping on the core Toyota and Lexus market in the least.

Yeah, contrast that to a Kia Soul, which I’ve also had a rental. That’s a car that wouldn’t be my first choice, but if I needed a budget car, a soul would be a great option. A cube...just shoot me and put me out of my misery.

One data point on the car:According to the CARB website, it was last smogged (and it passed) in 2014. So it’s probably been sitting for around 5 years. (Which seems better than 20....)

I think there’s also been a huge change in how people “act out” culture. Prior to the last 3 decades or so, if you were someone who wanted to have an “important” job (something that paid well, had power and authority, etc.), you had to dress and style yourself in a very specific way. Conservative suits, ties and dress

I don’t understand the objection to the McLaren guy referencing the full lifecycle carbon impact of electric vehicles. His only point in referencing battery production is that, in his view, his synthetic fuel solution is going to create a vehicle that will for its whole lifecycle yield lower carbon emissions than a

A super interesting and content-full post. Thanks!

Yup, 100%.

Truly, a mascot for these pandemic times.

It’s only significant if costs are not declining in an equal or greater amount.

I *want* so badly to like the Cadillacs, because they’re doing everything that I theoretically want. Muscular luxury sedans with RWD, a stick and a bunch of TASTY engine options. (Lincoln GTFOH with your FWD-based platforms.)

That’s the thing. All these insurers are phrasing it like they’re charities, when really they’re playing a bit of a guessing game called “what is minimum percentage of our excess profits from the pandemic that we can refund to customers without bringing down fire from our regulators?”

Oh yeah for sure. Those too

Totally agree. End point of this is that people die, and the best case scenario is the it’s only the racers themselves and not innocent bystanders.

If I had to guess, you could sell rust-free examples of 15-20 year old Suburbans/Tahoes for a pretty penny in that area.

I feel like there was an article here awhile back about how there are people who just routinely offer 60% of the asking price, no matter how reasonable or unreasonable it may be.

I do appreciate that he was at least trying for a theme - someone looking at quirky cars may also be interested in a BMW Luxo-barge from the 80s with a third pedal. He just took it too far, because someone searching for Buicks from the early 1900s is almost certainly not looking for this.

Yeah, between the wheels and the lowering kit (at least it looks dropped to my eye), the proportions of what was otherwise an extremely handsome sedan are all thrown off. (I love M-parallels, just not on this car.)

It’s not that out of line for a clean e32 in the LA market (at least in terms of Craigslist listing prices....who knows what they actually sell for). I still voted CP because it still seems like a lot of scratch for what it is, plus keyword spam and no information about the mechanicals. But if you routinely search
