Yup. There are definitely GTs in the ballpark of this Hyundai price wise with under 50k miles. Or you can get a 5-year newer V6.

When pics were first released, my take was that it looked like a generic “sports car”. Someone else replied and said it looks like a sports car in a video game where they didn’t want to pay licensing fees to use any “real” cars, which seems right to me.

Even for a convertible 996, anything you see in the mid teens is usually a slush box. This is well below that price point AND has the correct transmission. Massive nice price.

I had reached to out to Carvana, Shift, et al, earlier in the year about selling them our car. Didn’t end up doing it because life got in the way of finding a replacement and now obviously, won’t be making any big financial moves until things stabilize a bit.

I thought it was Drew too!

100% with you. You get a modern interior and drivetrain with a classic exterior. The best kind of restomod

I love everything about this. But my favorite part is the whole “this car *could* kick the ass of all our competitors, but we’ve decided not to sell it” thing.

I was with my father in law as he passed after being removed from a ventilator. Although he was quadriplegic and had been in a coma for weeks, as the fluid filled his lungs, his body did its best to fight back. The pain and distress he was experiencing was written across his face. It was a truly horrifying couple

Agreed - much more attractive than any cars Toyota currently has in its portfolio.

Yeah, I think all these predictions are underplaying how ugly it will be. So many people across sectors are losing jobs, will see a huge temporary drop in income or will feel massive insecurity about their financial situation. Who wants to make what is (for most consumers) the second largest financial commitment in

Agreed. The problem with the Civic’s design isn’t that it was different than every anonymous sedan of the last decade, it’s that Honda’s attempt to make it different! Edgy! Exciting! was just to throw a bunch of mis-matched shapes and lines into a pile and call it a day.

I’m not sure that’s really the case. Most generations of European cars don’t look hugely different from one generation to the next, other than the occasional complete restyling (which the Japanese makers do as well).

Bingo! That was my thought too.

To me, the Camaro, Daytona, 300ZX, etc all looked much more like “sports cars” to me. Low-slung, steeply-raked windshields, etc. They looked fast and aggressive, even if many of them were slow and wallowing (especially by today’s standards). The fox bodies just sat to upright imo.

I don’t really understand the love for the fox bodies in general, especially the notchback. They are just so visually unappealing to my eyes - the notchback to me looks like a Chrysler K car with a Mustang badge. The GTs (especially toward the end of the run) at least fixed some of these aesthetics with heavy body

I daily a W123. It’s a reliable car, and fun to drive. It is lacking in certain refinement compared to modern cars. That said, I’m not sure how much of an upgrade a W124 is going to provide in terms of either modern comfort or safety standards. It’s still a 35+ year old chassis (as opposed to a 40+ year old chassis),

It’s not a dog, it’s a (trash) panda.

I thought the same thing.

This is a really thoughtful and balanced look at things.

Nice suggestion. You can get a lot of wagon for well under his max budget too.
