This seems classy by Hopkins. The man is 83 and America is still a fucked-up place in a pandemic and he didn’t think he’d win. I have no problems with him not being there.

I actually think they got it right, and I was afraid they wouldn’t. If you get a chance to see The Father, please do. Chilling depiction of dementia, and it might be a career-best for Hopkins, which is really saying something.

Given his track record, Musk will probably go on to claim that he founded SNL, that he’s the mind behind all of their sketches, and that he’s a once-in-a-generation genius who spotted Eddie Murphy’s raw talent. And people will believe him.

Well, two things there: Tina Fey has been the front-runner to replace Lorne Michaels since she was the show-runner. It certainly behooves her to be complimentary. But also, she doesn’t have the best track record of judgement herself, based on her repeated use of blackface and other problematic racial jokes.

I think the 90-minute format is the show’s saving grace - it allows for a bit more experimentation and less of the “greatest hits” format they would settle into at 60 minutes. I do agree about Lorne and a cast turnover. We are probably getting one of the latter after this season. I can’t imagine the former is too far…

A few of the cast don’t seem happy (Aidy Bryant posted a Bernie quote about billionaires, and Bowen Yang just made a sad face emoji). I can’t see anyone pulling a Nora Dunn and boycotting, but I do wonder if this will make some of the longtime cast who are not sure whether to go finally pack it in. The show does need…
