Not doing hard drugs at 50 helps prevent heart attacks. I’m not sure we need a class to teach people that.

A woman writing for National Lampoon in the early ‘70s and SNL in the late ‘70s... to think of the river of sexist bullshit she had to swim upstream through every day just boggles the mind.

I liked Square Pegs a lot when it was on and sadly cancelled too soon.  It held up pretty well on a recent re-watch.  RIP Anne.

To some degree, and he was allowed his Senate seat, but the reason why Ted never got the presidential candidate nomination (although he really, really, wanted it and didn’t see why he shouldn’t have gotten it as part of the Kennedy brother birthright) was enough Democrats remembered what he did and wanted nothing to

A 32-33 yo woman went to producers to try to get out of a legal contract because she didn’t want to work with or was afraid of the director and headliner of the movie AND CRIED.

Considering you seem to dislike the majority of AV Club commenters nearly as much as the bulk of them seem to dislike you, I can’t help but wonder why you stick around. Is your entire goal really just to spread your own misery around as much as possible?

I think it’s reasonable to acknowledge the shittiness of turning a blind eye to the behavior of Ted Kennedy/Bill Clinton/etc. while still recognizing that all moral failures and hypocrisies are not created equal.

Beatts was responsible for this fake ad in an issue of “National Lampoon” in the early-1970s. It may be the single most biting, ballsy piece of political humor I’ve ever seen. Stick with this, because it’s pretty great:

Here’s that Volkswagon parody she created. It’s a doozy.

She might have been “one of the few women on the show’s writing staff,” but I would argue that she, Rosie Shuster, and Marilyn Suzanne Miller were as well-known by name by SNL aficionados as any male writer - and whose voices one could always tell from the mood and tone of a sketch.

Like Freaks and Geeks, Square Pegs was way ahead of its time. I read she wanted an all female writing team, in 1982, but CBS forced a token man in there. She was brilliant.

The Trump era, which Stewart mostly sat out, was exceedingly hard on the idea that political satire, in and of itself, had the ability to effect real-world change—once a core part of the Daily Show appeal.

The only way to get this man out of our lives for ever is to stop giving him a platform!  He is not well.

Can we instead pay Kanye $30 million to disappear and never be heard from again?

Because Whedon am Bastard Man!

If this is Fisher not being cryptic, maybe he should go back to being cryptic. Because if this is the whole story basically boils down to:

I can see that. I’m reminded of his short story, “The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber,” in which the protagonist has his manhood called into question (verbally and physically), and attempts to compensate for it in the story’s climax.

Hemingway would be a “content manager” at some website without a war to go fight in.

No. I’m literally saying the opposite. The racism isn’t good. But the times weren’t good for race in general. Hemingway was a TOTAL DICK. But I honestly think that when it comes to racist he was a garden variety racist for the time. He wasn’t burning crosses are supporting Nazis.

At the risk of sounding like an old, I

At least you didn’t do Modernist Writing in Australia and had to deal with how “important” Katherine fucking Mansfield is, and having a litany of unrequited decrepit 1970s-throwback second-wave feminists telling you how she’s actually the most important fucking figure in literature, while Hemingway was just a scumbag.
