I haven’t seen anything to suggest that the college dude is not wearing his big boy pants. Having known the type to be college newpaper editors, he’s probably high fiving everyone in sight and feeling like a king to get a rise out of someone of Lonergan’s stature. He’s fully dealing with it; that’s why he wrote it.

Definitely, I agree. It was mean and petty, but the kind of mean and petty that college newspaper journalists are high-fiving over having incited.

IMO, it’s the power imbalance that makes it hilariously petty and undermines Lonergan’s response. The student’s piece is fully what I expected from a college newspaper taking on a big social commentary story, but I expect waaaaaaaay more from a fully-grown man who just won an Oscar. I expect him not to attempt to

Settling means you drop your legal pursuit of a case (legal people help me out, but I am under the impression that means no blabbing to the press afterwards); it doesn’t mean it was a rumour or gossip. Multiple women felt the need to begin a legal battle outlining their specific cases against him (not gossip, and not

It’s the hyper-defensive DON’T TALK ABOUT CASEY’S PAST SHENANIGANS!!!!(very Pythonesque DON’T MENTION THE WAR! kinda stuff) shielding from other men in his field that I find gross. He did some shit, it’s relevant to people giving him side eye (what exactly has he done to change his ways? Except not get caught

College newspapers are by nature incendiary shitshows; if anything, it’s a distinction to draw their attention! Lonergan’s response is so friggin petty.

Massholes! All of them!

When someone brings up PC-culture as a refutation, it’s always the final square of Asshole Bingo. His refutation points more to the fact that he’s totes okay with Affleck because he doesn’t see anything wrong with behaving like Affleck, than to whatever point he was trying to make (we’re all so mean? I dunno).

I don’t understand these assholes who want to rain fury and wrath down upon any slight chirp of criticism. It really, really makes the whole situation look waaaaaay more suspect than not saying anything at all.

In his mind, he probably doesn’t think there’s a problem because he’s using freaking AOL (somebody else’s server). It must be safe! Also, because there’s no law on the books in his state. Hilary had her own server, so nefarious! She’s like a mad scientist down there in her basement, who knows what she’s getting up to?!

I think the Oscars incident is worth criticizing and writing about because it reveals just how unfuckingprofessional the whole thing always is (and usually at the expense of POC and LGBTQ people). At this point, an annual event like this should be a well-oiled machine, but they cannot seem to get their act together.

I am a broken record at this point, but why is the costuming so bad? Every clip and still makes me sad. Nothing fits. The fabrics and palette are fug. Nobody looks good (and its hard to make Luke Evans look bad; he was blisteringly hot in the Hobbit with silly fantasy clothes on). I want someone on the inside to spill

Have you ever thought someone was a total asshole, without really having a reason? You just a get a general sense, like a warning from deep within you, whenever you hear about them or see them? I always felt that way about Andrew Garfield. I was right! He has pride in him as a man? Fuck that!

My favourite news headline ever was when Orlando jumped over a couch Legolas-style in a club to punch out Justin Bieber because the Biebz was disrespecting Orlando’s ex-wife, all while Leonardo DiCaprio looked on applauding.

If I had the pull of Watson, I’d bring in some folklorists and English Lit./film studies profs to discuss the themes of the story with. Have a big friggin folklorist party with lots of booze. I’d rather talk fairy tales with people who study them for a living than with Gloria Steinem. Someone’s rubber stamp of

It’s just that all these ‘unprecedented’ errors keep happening to people who are already feeling like they’re fighting for any inclusion at all. It feels disrespectful; with this kind of event, at this level, fucking up at all should not happen. I’m working in event coordination right now, at nowhere near the level of

I’m still SO pissed off that Anohni wasn’t invited to perform. I listen to Manta Ray all the time; I’m pissed it didn’t win (or the opera song performed by Sumi Jo, who also wasn’t invited to sing because a world-famous opera superstar wasn’t a big enough draw to the Academy).

I still haven’t seen La La Land and probably won’t because it looks boring and I dislike most of the actors in it (I also hate that dude in Whiplash, so I’m not a big fan of who that director chooses to work with).

I legit thought for a second that this was a headline about SNL and that the pic was Melissa McCarthy.

I remember finally saving $100 after having a paper route for what seemed like forever (my brother was paid twice as much as me even though we shared the route and the paper said that the pay disparity would “work itself out” which was weird and bullshit????) and being in awe of having so much money stacked on my
