He was never fat. He just looked bloated and was often shown eating unhealthy food and had unhealthy lifestyle, poor hygene from what we saw on screen. That made him a bit gross. But he looks much better this season.

This is the show with the lowest average cast height. They are all so short, except Sheldon/Jim Parsons.
