re: stalling versus burning the plot up. It might be that they are not sure if they are getting anymore seasons so they are not sure if they can risk a character building episode/storylines.

The Last Kingdom airs on the BBC and The Path airs but I stopped watching that after season one.

Without commercials, The Magicians was about 43 minutes (so pretty close) and the Expanse was 41 minutes. The way the editor or whomever is responsible for commercial breaks transitions on The Magicians can screw those up so they take as long as they want, since they appear to be amateurs, why not?
