Ugh. I used to live next door to a boomer couple that stayed up all night smoking pot and blasting 70s music. Eventually the husband died and the wife became a self-righteous born again Christian. She once asked me to sign a petition, “to keep marriage between a man and a woman.”

Most states are far more lenient. I know someone who didn’t lose their license until they had multiple arrests. Then she was able to get something called a “hardship license.” She, of course, continued to drive drunk.

I recently learned that her dad was on As the World Turns, which was my soap when I was a kid!

It depressing to see comments when someone goes to jail about how they’ll be raped now. When in reality the most vulnerable prisoners are singled out for sexual assault; the young, the nonviolent, the poor (if a rich person actually goes to prison they can pay for protection), and of course transgendered folks.

True story: My mom wanted to name me Jennifer. My dad talked her into calling me Anastasia on the day I was born.
