I don't give the writers that much credit. They have improved immensely this season, but they barely do subtext, much less sensitive explorations of minority types. I am totally willing to eat my words and enjoy this season even more if it turns out you're right, though.

Oh, come on. I'm not saying the ears are a hallmark of sanity by any means, but they come from creatures who are already dead, and from whom Darryl was protecting himself. At least some of the heads are from people the Governor has murdered (or ordered to be murdered) in cold blood. It's not the same thing.
