It makes no sense.  I can give food to a neighbor.  But if the neighbor doesn’t have enough money for a house I can’t.  I think it’s hateful.

Is a fantastic argument for not feeding the homeless/hungry because clearly they’d be fine if you just didn’t them food.

And I’ll bet my last dollar the people complaining are (1) self-described Christians and (2) not doing a damn thing themselves to help the homeless.

I wouldn’t say he just plows on. In fact, I’d prefer he just make the mistake and move on since everybody knows what he meant. It’s the fact that he stops, realizes the mistake, goes “fuck you, I meant to say that” by saying AND, then says the correct word that makes it awful.
