I agree. I love the fact that they take traffic into consideration in navigation. I've found it to be accurate enough to be useful, and it means that I can just hit my "navigate to home" shortcut and I don't have to think about what route I should take — Google tells me what would be the fastest.

See @jeffk re ball point pen. Only the cheapest U-locks will still have a susceptible key hole. And it'll only be susceptible to a car jack if there's enough room in there to insert the jack. Part of good bike-lock usage is locking it it a way that fills out that empty space. That's why you should only get one

I recently finished a multi-year animation project and this was my strategy as well. My focus was on how much work was still remaining and it was very motivating in terms of getting me to the finish line.

What they REALLY want is for you to carry a balance. As long as you always pay at least your minimum payment each month, carrying a balance improves your credit faster than paying it off in full. That said, I can't bring myself to carry a balance. Credit card interest rates are insane!

Repeated credit card applications are bad for your credit. You should only apply for a credit card if you're pretty sure you'll be approved.

It's interesting that you say that about pizza. I find that home-made pizza is far better than anything I've ever had in a restaurant. It's because I know what I like. I use exactly the ingredients I want, most of which aren't even options at most pizza places. I'm also not timid about using unconventional

It's not just about bandwidth, though! It's also about support and the tools they make available. Dreamhost really has it down when it comes to friendly and casual but professional service.

I second the Dreamhost sentiment. I use them, as do several other people I know who are generally knowledgeable about this sort of thing. They offer $9.95 domain registration (or more for some of the weird ones like .info or.name). Their hosting deal includes one registration for free and they usually have a deal

I really like the idea of a music player that supports both local files and streaming, so that's good. But Winamp continues to support neither playlists with streaming entries nor bookmark links to streaming audio (like the MP3 streams of radio stations). I need one-touch access to my favorite streams, as well as a

I just hope that Los Angeles doesn't drag its feet on joining in on this like it did with Google Transit. We had to wait years before we finally got LA transit data in Google Maps.

Last I checked, yes, there were things like this available for Android, but they all cost money and/or were a pain to set up and/or had lots of bugs and/or had a terrible user interface. I haven't looked into it since last year, though, so things may have gotten better since then. I eventually just gave in and

I've lived in Los Angeles for the last ten years in various apartments and now a house. While air conditioning isn't absolutely required, at some point you start to think about the trade-off of money and comfort. When you have months at a time of weather so hot that you have a hard time even getting to sleep, the

I was in the same boat for a long time, but I finally broke myself of the habit. I've largely ignored the Simpsons for years, finding my cartoon goodness elsewhere.

I always did my taxes with an online service. I bought a house last year, though, so I figured it was time to use a professional preparer. She got me thousands more than I otherwise would have, and also filed an ammended return for my previous year, getting me another $1200!

I think I'm going to stick with Tasker — much more versatile, though admittedly also a lot more complex to use.

Unfortunately, with the way credit works in this country, credit cards are nigh indispensable. Besides, having a credit card doesn't necessarily coincide with having credit card debt. I, for instance, never carry a balance. Just the process of buying and paying the full bill makes a difference for your credit

@OscarNJ: As near as I can tell, white chocolate is just milk chocolate without the cocoa powder. So really what it adds to this recipe is some fat (ostensibly cocoa butter , though many "white chips" are made with hydrogenated or tropical oils), some milk flavor, and perhaps a little vanilla.

Turbo Pascal 6.0 for DOS was fantastic. It was the first of the Borland TurboVision compiler suites, and for years it was unbeaten in speed, utility and general awesomeness. It's also the one that cemented the IDE as vital in commercial compiler suites.

@mrmarks: I use XiiaLive, which will open M3U files and just generally seems to be a good streaming program. The way I do it is to first set the volume to a low value, then download the M3U file from the station's web site (just to make sure I really have it and it hasn't been deleted or anything). Then I open the
