The story is definitely cyclical, no denying that. I still feel like Abrams & Co. moved the ball forward pretty significantly though. Perhaps the intent of the filmmakers in this saga is to show how events repeat themselves in Star Wars Land much like they do in reality.

I actually can't understand why, if all of Andy Serkis' virtual characters look basically like Andy Serkis, why not use the Real Andy Serkis and stop messing around with motion capture CGI bullshit?

I think that would make for an interesting story, no doubt, but would that really be in the same spirit as the originals? I always thought they were supposed to be more on the fun spectacle side, not necessarily complex in any way.
