I don't think it's the situation itself, at least not for me and from what I've read probably also many others. It's the completely moronically contrived way in which they arrived to it.

Besides what wacoshade said, in the books Deb is not such an emotional character. Take all the foul-mouthed badassery and leave out Carpenter's crybaby scenes, that's it. Btw, anyone else bothered that pretty much all Deb scenes this season was Carpenter on the verge of crying?
It's cause Deb finds out at the end of the first book, so fans have been speculating about this for a long time
