i much prefer this method of information delivery, not some polished PR suit reading out updates like a zombie. we get an honest to goodness nerd who can tell us like it is and how we (maybe just I) prefer it to be told.

i thought the martian (Iron Man scene aside) did a very good job of adapting book to the big screen. they left out some big parts but nothing that really derailed the story.
