Hopping into a Ford Galaxy and travelling to another planet is probably the cruelest parody of the sci-fi genre going.

Do you think 34,000,0000 streams is a small number?

"Streaming, like radio, is primarily advertising for the artist"

Radio: on a day to day basis a popular song is played an x number of times in a y number of markets. Getting radio play resulted in album sales, and radio also provided a market focused promotional engine. Besides, that, because people are listening to the radio so that they can hear that Rolling Stones song they are

Portishead promoted their third album on Myspace.

*a crap bad math to fix* .

Let's make it 50 cents, and then lets assume that 1% of everything streamed is equal to 1 album sold. That's $170,000.

I don't think he's complaining as much as pointing out that streaming isn't going to replace music sales.

I don't know why Sony would even sign them They didn't seem like the type of band that would fit in with the stadium crowd. I figured I'd eventually hear them again with some nostalgic mention of that youtube video that went viral, and no real commercial interest. I think Colbert ruined them. albeit unintentionally.

What you're saying here is completely moronic.

Here is the basic fact: the music industry's product is recorded music in the same way that the dairy industry's product is milk. What we're seeing more and more is people paying less for recorded music and the lion's share of that lesser revenue going to third parties that have no real interest in creating,

I agree. Except, it might be advantageous that Noah will be able to build his own team of writers and correspondents. I was kind of surprised that Jason Jones and Samantha Bee stuck around as long as they did.

I don't think Larry Wilmore is a good fit for The Daily Show. The Nightly Show has been uniquely tailored to Larry's style as the presenter who explains though quiet and friendly conversation. I just wish they'd extend the panels for another segment and simply say goodbye instead of doing the closing statement.

Playing the same character in several similar bands doesn't make you Johnny Depp.

The Fabulous Stains

There used to be a string-band around Toronto that performed around a ribbon microphone. It's an interesting dynamic and that fact that you're not remixing the instruments at the board it sounds more natural.

These days crowd funding is a good way of promoting an album, funding it, and getting fans exciting about an upcoming tour.

It's straight up perfectly fine for Amanda Palmer to be her own person and crowd fund her own album. It's also perfectly fine for her to be hugely successful at it. But, don't take advantage of the fact that you just had a hugely successful Kickstarter, and successful public career by becoming the person that is so

I wonder how many of these would have been written off as one hit wonders if they were slightly more successful before breaking up.

That Concrete Blonde cover was awful and completely out of place with everything. The movie becomes insufferably 80s at the end but the rest of is worthwhile.
