At which point Ford introduces the I4 2.0L turbo, Plug-In hybrid drivetrain. With an uprated electric motor for more torque and while still providing excellent MPG in the city/burbs. And then GM is behind again.

Totally agree, this is BAD for the used market. Because if you can't afford to pay your 450-900/month payment you sure as shit aren't going to change the oil, replace the timing belt (subaru), or get that "knocking noise" looked at. Indeed, the only 'new' plane I've been on was a 737-800 on Alaska, the rest of the time it's old 757/767's running out their flyable miles on the transcontinental routes. Rickety, beat-up, sad really.
