The Bogie and Bacall factor definitely raised the esteem of The Big Sleep, the two of them together were bigger than the movie. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a classic noir, but Bogie isn’t a great Marlowe. Murder My Sweet and Dick Powell best captured Chandler’s writing the Marlowe character on film.

The Breaking Bad one was awful. Funny is not taking actors and having them repeat old lines but with a product name cut-and-pasted into it. Funny is doing something clever.

As a director, Pitch Perfect 2 already broke for her. It was a massive hit for it’s budget, which allowed her to make Charlie’s Angels, which flopped astronomically, which is a shame. Not saying her Charlie’s Angels was some fantastic movie, it’s a bit meandering, but that’s Bank’s comedic and dramatic sensibilities…

I always imagined she’d do great making an old-school screwball comedy (maybe with a slightly updated sensibility), but I don’t know that the audience is there for screwball comedies anymore.
