Much of Appalachia was part of the Confederacy, wasn’t it? I would think that industrial slavery would represent very-end stage capitalism.

I’ve lived in Appalachia, and yeah, this checks out. I mean sure, late stage capitalism, income inequality, whatever. The whole region was basically fucked long before everyone realized everyone else is too.
And ironically, those hit hardest in Appalachia are the same ones voting for the source of the disparity. Indoctrination is a bitch, especially when one has little contact with those outside their bubble.
It’s the death of the American Dream. The majority of people in the world and America now realize they will never own a home or be able to afford to retire, where the thought of even having a family is out of the question. Raises used to allow people to afford homes and provide well for their family. Now many raises…
We’re all depressed because the “pursuit of happiness”, as enshrined to us, has been stolen bit-by-bit every day for everyone by the moneyed upper classes, and we see basic life needs getting more expensive and out of reach every single day.
This isn’t super hard to figure out: people don’t have jobs that sustain…
I for one welcome our whale overlords.
I mean, aren’t most places along coastlines “rich person hotspots”?
I enjoyed this episode okay, though it did feel a lot like setup. Also, I struggled to invest in the stakes when I know there’s no way they’re going back to war with the Klingons. It’s pretty much the same way I feel about Spock and Chapel. (And given how much I like T’Pring’s character, it kind of ticks me off the…
Well, if this is how the revolution starts...
I remain astounded that we’ve lost more Babylon 5 actors than we have for all the Star Treks combined.
A good deal at $27.99, though only 200 pages. A little hard to do justice to 100 years of a pulp magazine in 200 pages?
Boy’s toys get big-budget direct adaptations that play to positive nostalgic feelings.
I hope she’s pissing on Thatcher from heaven.
Normally I’d hate this (evil music conglomerates have ruined YouTube for decades with fake takedown notices that YouTube plays along with), but in this case it couldn’t happen to a more deserving also evil bastard. If Universal, Sony, Warner, etc can actually take a few pounds of flesh out of Elmo then that’s great.
Yeah, Landis deserved to go to prison for that. No movie is worth lives.
Perhaps I’m being unrealistic but I hope this lawsuit ends with Elon Musk going to prison for life somehow.
The case she should have been storing the dummy and the blank rounds should have a lock for which she had the only key. All the dummy rounds should have been checked before going into that case and checked again coming out. The dummy rounds could have had plastic bullets painted to match.
Yes. That situation was even worse. Landis should’ve done hard time for multiple counts of manslaughter. Instead it all got swept under the rug. There was also conjecture that producer Steven Spielberg may have been on set, but they never were able to prove it.
This. A total lack of any safety culture with guns. On a properly run set, those weapons would’ve been under lock and key and handled ONLY by the armorer, and the actor(s) using the weapon on set, to ensure a chain of custody. And even then, the gun’s barrel and chambers would be checked every time it changes…
Reports at the time said crew members would take the props and use them for live ammo target practice. Supposedly the gun that ultimately killed Hutchinson was used for target practice that morning.
