Yes because choosing to believe in an invisible sky fairy is the same as being born with a color of skin that causes people to shit on you every singe day of your life. Totally the same thing.

yeah, I edited that line. And you're right, it is people who oppress others - in the name of ideologies.

"Every single symbol on the right represents an ideology that has in the course of human history been used to oppress individuals in one way or another."

ok, well. My position is that people are people - actual, living beings with feelings and ideas. Ideologies are the social constructs. Your assertion that rights are not inherent is technically accurate but not really all that useful.

Sarcasm? Or did the point of this post fly right over your head?

PSA.

Sorry, religious people, the time when you dictate what people can or can't do must come to an end. The corrosive nature of your influence has outweighed the positive.

Fellow DC lady here. Try this on:

If he asked her out , then yes he should have picked it up. If she asked, she should pick it up. Whoever asks should pay.

Yeah but if the witness doesn't show up the rapist walks out and doesn't get punished. And then the same people would be complaining that prosecutor did a bad job and that he doesn't care about sexual assault crimes and that the system ignores rape victims. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Can you please point out what in the article suggests that the woman "couldn't handle" what the system asked of her? I think what is really bothering me about your article is that you are assuming that woman made no choices that led to the situation. I am not trying to victim blame nor am I referring to the actual

Unfortunately a prosecutor is not a wizard who can snap his fingers and make housing appear, nor can he make someone take counselling and housing who doesn't want it if that's the case. The prosecutor can refer the person to organizations who may be able to help, but they have no power to actually make it happen.

It isn't your job but it is your legal obligation if you've been subpoenaed.

Um, if she presssed charges and wants him to go to jail for doing what he did to her then yes, it is her responsibility to cooperate.

Do any of you understand what it's like to be a state prosecutor? To have a victim constantly dodge your phone calls because they don't want to deal with it or can't be bothered? If you are subpoenaed, you have a legal obligation to testify, sometimes at pretrial events such as hearings... to not do so is breaking the

it sucks that they did this but what's worse: locking up rape victims to make sure they cooperate, and putting their rapists in jail, or allowing victims not to show up and another rapist walks free?

You are right. Canada totaly reminds you about it on end for weeks on end, and America never mentions that miracle on ice thing either, right?

His underlying message is "I'm trying to rile up the Jezebel commentariat for fun."

Move over, Affluenza, "I am the victim because I made a mistake" will be our newest batshit crazy legal defense.

Proud of you Jennifer. Don't listen to the assholes. This is how progress is made. Two steps forward, then a hesitant shuffle to the side, and then WHAM, three steps backwards through the air.
