No kidding.
Yeah. I hang out in the gawkerverse now and again, but Reason.com's Hit and Run is my normal place to enjoy news commentary. This place is all advocacy and outrage all the time.
I wish it was true that only trolls wanted to deny the accused Due Process, but it just isn't.
There have already been enough opinions aired on this topic, frankly, we don't really need more opinions that are based on a whole set of questionable facts. What's the rush? The investigative reported just started, so you can be sure we're all in the dark on this one.
This is despite the fact that false rape accusations are no more common than false accusations of any other crime. Yet, the rape apologist crowd doesn't make a habit of disbelieving the people who report any other crime...
There's really only one place to "swing" to here. Everyone should just stop speculating right now. Don't call Jackie a liar, and don't call any of the frat boys rapists. Let the reporters do the work that should have been done before now. This story has only just started to unravel. It could go anywhere from…
Ya, because a lack of proof in ONE case negates ALL the others.
No it's not, women lie about rape all the time.
It's at least a little bit meaningful.
It's a shame that this story will result in more skepticism of rape and sexual assault claims. That's the wrong take-away here. The people deserving of skepticism are reporters with an agenda to push, as well as those who would shame people who refuse to join team outrage.
I think the judicial system makes mistakes all the time, and it does so with more frequency when a justice or freedom for a black person is on the line.
This is getting ridiculous. No one is bothering to read the testimony in that report before continuing these made-up narratives that have been plaguing this case for months. People are still citing theories they read on Reddit or Kos, while tons of new information is out there.
I think you are missing his/her point. I failed to understand what he/she was saying at first as well. I think this commenter is bringing up the possibility that cosby has never stopped raping women, or at least he continued to well after the statute of limitations was up. I think the suggestion is that cosby has…
Does he does this to other men, too? I think a lot of men just do this as a matter of course.
I don't advocate telling children their emotions are silly, pretty much for the reasons you state. I do think children's emotions need to be ignored sometimes. I have a really vivid childhood memory, so I remember some of my tantrums and times I was scared. I remember ruining everyone's breakfast at a Bob Evans…
Communist ideology is not what caused people's deaths
OK, but the communist party under Stalin did kill millions, and they did it under the flag of the hammer and sickle. If you support that symbol, you really aren't any different than the Southern men who cling to their confederate flag. "Oh, it isn't really about slavery, at least we don't see it that way!" Well…
In 2006, communism isn't so scary, but neither are Nazis. We mock Nazi's now. That doesn't mean it is a good idea to flaunt the symbols of either of these parties. Both symbols stand for ideologies that killed millions.
And they have a right to feel what they feel. You (or anyone else) don't get to decide if it's legitimate or "strong emotional pressure" to feel a certain way.
