Yeah, although it's important to note that without Catcher & Lord of the Flies, the genre would have taken even longer to become established. But we're in what YA editors are calling the "Golden Age" of YA lit, so it's really interesting to look at the boom & shortcomings of the genre.

This is the first thing I did when I got home from the showing. Send my knitting mother a picture & say...Christmas? *with heart-eyes emoji attached*

my good friend refers to the Capitol exclusively as: "Tucci & them." So now I imagine the entire capitol with purple brows.

lmao damn, I guess I am a fan. But I can't think of any songs of hers that sound better than Glitter in the Air.

My younger brother & I both had very severe eczema when we were kids - it's gotten much better now. I just have some breakouts on my arms in the winter. My mom would bathe us nightly (but I actually think there is a cultural...thing about this. I don't know any black parents who don't bathe their kids every night)

I would hope that this special needs teacher wouldn't be the only one in the class, also 15-20 special needs kids in one class is a lot....right? Or maybe I'm just out of touch with current class sizes?

with you until "She can sing without a machine" b/c I've seen her live and...she puts on a great show but the voice is..eh. Plus everyone uses autotuning today, it's not so much of a big deal to me. But despite that I'm totally in agreement. I caught myself starting to think scathing thoughts about her, but if I'm

which is why we need some Janelle Monae at these award shows!

isn't it weird how this happens to some people & not others? Like Pink smokes, but her wasn't damaged by it.

Collin's only YA series is the hunger games so obviously you were talking about that. People don't write adult novels and get them published as middle grade, so obviously the first time she submitted was to children's publishers. Ender's Game wasn't published as YA because in the 80's the YA market isn't what it is

She was already published by Scholastic. She was not an unknown author in the children's writing world, at all. Her first series was a NYT best seller, middle grade published by Scholastic. Most children's authors stay with their original publisher. Violence is rampant in YA lit. by the way. The only significant

I seriously can't believe that she even did that shit.

The bosoms!!

When I first started reading, I would try to imitate that sniffing and I became deeply confused with the image. Eventually I took it as a flaring of the nostrils or just imagined eye-rolling.

She killed like 3 people in the first games. But also her whole strategy was to avoid, to survive by avoiding.

I don't think Collins would have ever intended to write an adult novel. I mean she submitted to Scholastic & was a children's (middle grade) writer before.

I have a huge frustration with this - I'm a graduate student in a MFA, writing for children and I write epic fantasy - and all the people in the cohort repeatedly tell me to add more exposition, when I believe world building is built through experiencing the world. So annoying, but I think fantasy writers are trained

I feel you on that, but also there are plenty of people who dislike Beyonce. A significant amount of people think she's a devil worshipper. Also as a black star, for me as a black woman, I am so perpetually impressed by Beyonce (especially compared to other black stars) that I have a hard time being critical of her.

I made this comparison right after I saw it. Definitely agree. The character development was so much more successful than in the first, not to mention the emotive scenes in the Districts, and the amazing action while they were actually in the arena. Very much improved.
