Why would FFXI players hop to FFXIV and lose all their progress, when new content is STILL being produced for FFXI?

I'm almost positive that this isn't the case here, the actual Paragon studios dev teams had nothing to do with other NCSOft games as far as I know. There are NCSoft exclusive bits of code, I'm sure, but they are likely the exact same bits for all games and could probably be removed just as easily as they were added.

Considering they fired the entire development staff, it seems very unlikely they are going to do anything with the code.

I can name two games I know I will personally never play.

NCSoft actually dissolved without any notice the entire studio, many of the protesters want to see NCSoft do right by them.

City of Heroes was turning a profit, a good enough profit that the developers honestly though that it would be running for years to come AND NCSoft was actually in the process of expanding Paragon Studios into developing a new game due to it's success.

The game was making money. NCSoft chose to shut it down anyways.

I d prefer subs to dubs, but I apply that logic to all movies/games/music/whatever, not just ones from Japan. I like to get as close to the original intended artistic vision of the creator as possible.
