Sony has a pay-television deal with Starz through to next year that compels theatrical release. The ScarJo lawsuit did not figure in at all, since suppliers of revenue are more important that talent. Sony Pictures Animation releases are not part of the deal.
There’s no new Rick and Morty tonight.
Of the situations you state, only the commercial blocker is an actual problem. (Hulu and Xfinity won’t let you run their streaming sites with an ad blocker.) As long as the ad is transmitted some way, it counts. I’m not arguing the merits of the model. I’m just pointing out how the system works.

It was submitted to the Daytime Emmys, where they got three nominations.
It has a plot which runs all the way through, with a full company of actors.
