What do you mean when you say they don’t mean it? I think they mean it. Which doesn’t mean they couldn’t change their minds. But... ?

Well I hope that happens. Which is sad - to have to hope for something so bleak. But it’s hard to be very hopeful when you look at political developments in the US or around Europe lately - whole societies moving backwards. Things don’t necessarily trend towards the good, even slowly. People (left-leaning people?

ok so. I guess you’re not expecting to be taken seriously.

It’s amazing to me that you adopt this absolutist tone about an incredibly complex situation and expect to be taken seriously. Pro-Palestine, Pro-Israel - there are moral, ethical and admirable people on both sides of this debate (and many who don’t take a simple side). Anyone who doesn’t acknowledge that the

Starting a post with “[NAME]’s LinkedIn profile tells me everything I know about her,” isn’t exactly getting on the fast track to credibility.

Yep I agree 100%. I mean - I agree that we disagree (but only partly), and that it’s good to disagree without fighting but just to have a back and forth and try to understand someone else’s perspective. People tend to think the only way to have a conversation that feels respectful is to agree completely but i don’t

Well, you’ve got me there - I didn’t see the quote about “black people as one man.” I think your points and your perspective are interesting and make a lot of sense. I don’t read the selfishness that you read - more an understandable defensiveness against the PART of Jackson’s comments that did seem to question D.

I think your points all make great sense. And I agree with much of your analysis. I especially see the distinction you (and Jackson) are making between (a) an assessment of Kaluuya’s capacities as a person and an actor and (b) a separate assessment of Hollywood’s tendency to seek out Black actors from outside the U.S.

First of all the quote you’re upset about is actually a misquote that probably happened by accident. Kaluuya didn’t say, “Some things are universal, everything ain’t,” or anything like it. Jackson said that and then somehow Yesha Callahan stuck the two quotes together.

This article accidentally misquotes Kaluuya, and makes him look inconsistent in the process. Sam Jackson is the one who said, “Some things are universal, but everything ain’t.” Somehow that got tacked onto Daniel Kaluuya’s comment in the GQ article, “So people get an idea of what they might think the experience is.”

This looks good. Wonder what the chances of seeing it outside NYC are.

Bobby and I disagree on a lot of things, but we like exactly the same bagel setup. Toasted everything, scallion cream cheese, lox, tomato, red onion, capers. I guess this means I now have to reevaluate everything else in my life.

What a great, well-researched, thoughtful article! I study the evolution of communication and the “theory of mind” we maintain to help us interpret the signals, emotions and intentions of others. I’m impressed with the way you’ve dealt with the current thinking on A.I., sexual communication, and how we’re likely to

It’s not easy to start with a TMZ article and make it more gossipy and less defensible, but not too hard for... the Finger. The source piece says Pitt wasn’t unhappy about Jolie’s political activity, he was unhappy about her taking their kids to Syria in the middle of a war. That’s a pretty reasonable concern, and

ha yes I found it. She is very funny. And you are a stalker.

These are so good. She’s brilliant? Anyone know what the first one is from?

That is of course because the city does not care about this boy, or his family. The city cares about conspicuously reminding its citizens of its power and authority.

thgyhgb5 is conducting a masterclass. The Internet has a new King, and trolling’s past was merely prologue.

Ah I chimed in, but I take it back. No side is the right side.

oops, that was gross.
