Grade A
Love your work, KH, but that's not an especially convincing rationalisation.. it's a little difficult to buy that 'baby weight' is anything other than a physical description - if you were really trying to refer to a character arc, there a many more sophisticated ways of referencing the fact the character just had a…
That was a beautifully written review, TVDW - thank you.
The sad thing is that I would probably read that For Your Consideration with great interest.. in between repeat-watching several tv shows, anyway.
It's not just common for actors - many, many Europeans are fluent in English and several other languages. It's really cool, actually - as an English-speaking-only Australian, I'm impressed by and envious of them!
Am glad you said this - I also thought that she was meant to be really good at really awful small talk. That is, it's presented as though small talk (aided, as you mention, by Gary) is one of her more sharply honed political skills..
I agree - she's fantastic (and she was brilliant in 'In The Loop' as well - Chlumsky and the brilliant Armando Ianucci clearly work very well together).
He's such a prick!! He makes Julia Gillard's husband look like a rank amateur (sorry - an Australian here.. but our PM has an idiotically sabotaging husband (I think) rather than a deliberately saboaging one, as in Veep).
Am with you - Andrew is just AWFUL! He's such a bastard to her.. like Gary, 'I hate him so much..'
Yeah - that's definitely the impression I got - that she was gonna go French and then thought it would be too risky in terms of alienating 'middle America'. Brilliant delivery, as always, on JLD's part - god, I love her.
I agree.. I mean even weaker Veep is still great, but this episode wasn't quite as funny as the previous ones, in my opinion.
You do actually like this show, right, Mr Sullivan!? Am not arguing with the grade (it was about a B episode for me.. I would give most of them A's or A-s though, myself) and am not even saying you have to love the show to review it well (although personally, I think it's brilliant). It's just that you always seem to…
He's brilliant, isn't he. Love, love, loved him in 'In The Loop'.. it's cool how different (yet still great) he is in 'Veep'. I think that's called acting, now I think about it..
One of my favourite/most mystifying censorship moments was when they released an episode of Weeds early on the internet that had the swear words censored but happily showed the violence of Mary Louise Parker shot in the head. 'Americans!' I always think, but Australians are probably no different.. and it doesn't…
'…a dark period when The Tudors was my everything'. Heh - we've all been there. (Well, some of us have been there.) Very nicely put. All the reviews have been great reading, though - thanks Ms Framke! And they needed to be good cos the show was huge fun, in my opinion too.
That same interview in which she said:
Still laughing at:
I agree that the Homonyms host is hilarious; the whole episode was gold, as far as I was concerned.
Am really enjoying these reviews.. thank you, Miss Guendelsberger! (I like them so much, I learned how to spell your name correctly! I hope.)
