How many times can you repeat the same mantra over and over? You can’t force or shame people into watching or not watching certain types of films.
If the actors’ strike doesn’t end soon, Wan is going to have to do the entire promotional tour for
I was only talking about the irony of the whole “brand damage” situation, but I can see how it comes across that way.
I think it’s less about Captain America and more about Scorsese. He’s not a box office draw as a director and doesn’t make films that appeal to a wider audience. His highest grossing film is Wolf of Wall Street with about 400M, and that probably has more to do with DiCaprio being the star. And that can’t be blamed on…
I didn’t say he cancelled it, I said that was the narrative they pushed (as well as pushing The Flash as the best thing ever):
Yeah, no shit. Tell that to Cereal Killer. I’m just showing that he did, in fact, have something to do with any of that.
“Gunn (who, in October, was named as the new co-CEO of DC Studios at Warner Bros. along with producer Peter Safran) told reporters on Tuesday, according to Deadline: ‘I will say here that Flash is probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.’”
Remember when Gunn, Safran, and Zazlav said they couldn’t release Batgirl because it would damage the DC brand, then spent months hyping up The Flash of all movies as “one of the greatest comic book movies of all time,” only for it to do terribly and get torn to shreds? Fun times.
And Elemental is the highest grossing original animated film from any studio since 2017 (which sadly shows how much the animation industry has changed)
It sounds like the top 10 is just getting more diversified, which is a good thing. And all these streaming services have “cookie cutter slates” if you haven’t noticed.
I’m sure this article was written a few weeks ago
I feel like Gunn messed up by both proclaiming The Flash as one of the greatest comic book movies of all time, announcing his slate at the beginning of the year, and saying Blue Beetle is in the DCU. Interest in DC (except Batman) is at an all-time low.
Wakanda Forever has review scores and a Cinemascore on par with The Batman and Guardians 3 (and much better than Dr.Strange 2 and Thor 4) and made more money than both even without its star from the previous movie, but the reception was just “fine”?
I don’t know why io9 would use Above the Line (and Jeff Sneider) as a source, considering he:
He posted on his Instagram story a few hours ago that he found out from the Variety article...that’s just sad
Where’d you hear that? Because the rumors have been that the tech companies are the main holdouts rather than the traditional studios, and can hold out much longer than them because streaming and film/TV is basically a rounding error to them.
Year-to-date, the 2023 box office is stronger than the 2022 box office by 20.7%
I’m pretty sure they never advertised Across and Beyond as a two-parter.
This movie had a really extreme marketing push. People definitely knew this movie existed, they just didn’t care about it.
