You do ultimately have a stake in whether or not other people have children, and you do ultimately have a stake in whether or not those children are healthy and happy and become healthy and happy adults. I'd recommend Koji Suzuki's Ring, if you're into horror and haven't already seen the similarly-named film. The mystery the protagonist (and you, probably) try to solve is a great puzzle, and the ending is positively diabolical.
